Turkey predicts 30% drop in produce yields for 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which collects and processes the data for publication, and the Turkish Statistical Institute, which oversees its release, have reported that overall vegetable and fruit production in Turkey is expected to decline in 2025 compared with the previous year.

Vegetable production
Vegetable output is projected to decrease by 0.8%, reaching approximately 33.3 million tons. Within this category, watermelon production is expected to rise by 8.3%, onion by 2.6%, and melon by 17.5%. In contrast, declines are forecast for tomatoes at 7.6%, capia peppers for paste at 6.3%, and green beans at 8.3%.

Fruit production
Fruit, beverage, and spice crop production is expected to fall by 30.4%, reaching about 19.8 million tons. Sharp declines are projected for several major fruit crops, including apples (down 48.3%), peaches (down 46.1%), nectarines (down 44.1%), cherries (down 70.6%), and grapes (down 24.5%). Strawberry production is forecast to decline by 1.9%.

Among citrus fruits, tangerine production is expected to rise by 7.1%, while orange and lemon production may fall by 15.0% and 34.8%, respectively.

Nut and other crops
Production decreases are also anticipated among major nuts: hazelnuts by 38.5%, walnuts by 38.1%, and pistachios by 61.1%. Banana production is forecast to decline by 1.6%, while olive production is expected to drop by 34.7% compared to the previous year.

The data reflect broad challenges across Turkey's horticultural sector, influenced by varying climatic and production conditions across regions.
