"Within five years, the tomato harvesting robot will be commonplace"

Bogaerts Greenhouse Logistics sells its greenhouse cultivation machines all over the world, and Founder and CEO Joris Bogaerts has grown alongside the rapid development and explosive expansion of global horticulture. In Belgium, however, things have slowed down since the nitrogen ruling, so the company now focuses on innovation within individual businesses, reports Vilt (link in Dutch). Automation and robotics are especially hot topics in the industry. "Within five years, tomato-picking robots will be a normal sight in tomato greenhouses," says Bogaerts confidently.

The entrepreneur from the Kempen region explains that several pilot projects with tomato-picking robots are already underway in the Netherlands, led by different manufacturers. "I'm convinced that in five years, tomato-picking robots will be common in greenhouses everywhere," he adds. Bogaerts Greenhouse Logistics is also developing its own version of the robot, which will soon be ready for testing.
