The Spanish fall-winter lettuce season is already underway, although with a slight delay due to the extension of the harvests in several central and northern European countries. Within two weeks, Europe is expected to have made the switch to Spanish production.

"We already have supply of our entire lettuce range, including Romaine, mini Romaine, Caribú, Cresta, Little Gem or Little Gem hearts, among others. We have started taking orders from various countries; nevertheless, the transition from local production to the Spanish isn't yet complete because there is still lettuce available in the United Kingdom, Germany and, above all, in the Netherlands, where they have planted later cycles to extend their season," says Alina Vasilica, from the export sales department at Murciana de Vegetales.
According to the sales representative, "there's always uncertainty at the start, regardless of the amount of planning. However, in around two weeks, the vast majority of European retailers will have switched to Spanish lettuce, which obviously has better quality than end-of-season productions from more northerly countries."
Murciana de Vegetales works entirely with supply programs for supermarket chains. "This year we are planning to increase our volumes for some varieties, as requested by some of our clients."
