Almaty region is seeing steady growth in its greenhouse sector, with 48 operational complexes covering a total of 79.2 hectares. In 2025, these facilities produced 13,800 tonnes of vegetables, including 8,200 tonnes of tomatoes and 4,400 tonnes of cucumbers.
Most of the harvest is distributed to local markets in Almaty and surrounding districts, helping reduce the region's reliance on imported vegetables during the winter and spring months.
Industry experts predict that greenhouse production in the region will grow by 15% by 2026, reflecting strong demand for locally grown, fresh produce.
"The development of the greenhouse sector is a key priority. We are creating conditions that allow farmers to supply fresh vegetables to residents year-round," said Galym Tokpeisov, highlighting the government's support for sustainable local production.
