Poland: Speakers announced for "Under Cover" program at TSW 2026

The organizers of the "Under Cover" Conference at TSW 2026 have announced the second part of the program, dedicated to modern, practical solutions for fruit and vegetable producers working in greenhouses and tunnels. This segment of the event will emphasize effective plant protection methods, diagnostic practices, and phytosanitary hygiene, with a particular focus on current trends in residue-free production systems.

Dr. Eng. Sylwia Stępniewska-Jarosz from the Plant Disease Clinic will present the latest observations on diseases affecting greenhouse and tunnel crops in Poland. The Plant Disease Clinic, established in 2011 as the first facility of its kind in the country, specializes in pathogen identification through biological, serological, and molecular methods. Dr. Stępniewska-Jarosz notes that rising production costs and growing awareness among producers have led to a significant increase in demand for professional diagnostics and phytosanitary testing, particularly from private growers.

Tomasz Krasowski from Delphy will focus on the practical aspects of tomato cultivation under the threat of ToBRFV and PepMV viruses. His presentation will cover strategies such as protective grafting and the use of resistant varieties. Krasowski emphasizes that strict phytosanitary hygiene combined with appropriate variety selection remains the only effective approach to maintaining healthy tomato crops under current conditions.

Dr. Eng. Gabriela Wyżgolik will deliver a presentation titled "Vertical Farming – Facts and Myths." She will analyze the potential and limitations of multi-level plant production systems, also known as plant factories. Her talk will address the economic, environmental, and phytosanitary dimensions of these systems, noting that while profitability continues to rise—with estimated return on investment between 2.5 and 6 years—key challenges persist in the form of high energy costs and the limited availability of suitable crop varieties for this type of cultivation.

The "Under Cover" Conference will take place on January 24, 2026, in Kielce, as part of the 16th edition of the Fruit and Vegetable Industry Fair TSW—the leading horticultural event in Central and Eastern Europe. The meeting will gather experts, producers, and advisors from Poland and abroad to discuss modern technologies and the sustainable future of protected cultivation.
