Himarcan combines expertise, technology and sustainability to improve fertigation efficiency

Digital tools for smarter fertigation

The digitalization of agriculture continues to advance, offering growers new tools to make data-driven decisions and improve crop performance. From Almería, Spain, Himarcan is contributing to this trend with Agrisense, a system designed to optimize one of the most crucial processes in agriculture: fertigation.

"Developed by Himarcan, Agrisense is part of a broader philosophy, combining agronomic knowledge, hydraulic engineering, and continuous support to maximize resource efficiency," explains Alberto Lázaro, CEO of the company. "By effectively controlling all variables that affect fertigation, growers can know in real time when the crop needs water or fertilizer, balance plant growth at every stage, and ultimately achieve cost savings, higher quality, and increased yields."

Agrisense: data for real decisions in turnkey projects
On a technical level, Agrisense operates through a data logger that can connect up to six sensors, measuring parameters such as temperature, humidity, radiation, and soil conditions. Advanced tensiometers and probes, like the Teros 12, enable precise monitoring of electrical conductivity, soil temperature, and moisture, providing a clear picture of crop status.

The system can also integrate water meters into irrigation lines to track consumption and correlate it with solar radiation or weather conditions. All data is compiled in a digital platform developed by Himarcan, allowing users to visualize, compare, and manage key variables in real time, from a computer, tablet, or mobile device.

Himarcan's added value goes beyond installing sensors. "Through our comprehensive project line, we design turnkey solutions that cover fertigation, climate control, automation, and remote management, everything connected through our digital network, Red-Himarcan," Lázaro explains.

This setup allows growers to monitor and control irrigation, climate, and nutrition from a single platform, with full traceability and instant responsiveness. Himarcan also handles the technical design and full implementation of each installation, ensuring quality, reliability, and sustainability in resource use.

Efficiency as the path to competitiveness
In terms of sustainability, Himarcan's climate and fertigation systems aim to optimize water and energy use, minimize waste, and promote more environmentally responsible agriculture. But as Lázaro points out, the push for sustainability also has an economic dimension.

"International competitiveness demands a technological leap," he says. "If we don't take that step, many emerging countries, more competitive due to lower labor costs, could overtake us. And those same countries we compete with in the market, such as Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, or Algeria, are investing heavily in technology. We can't afford to fall behind in efficiency."

Technical guidance is also a key part of Himarcan's offer. The company provides ongoing assistance, from sensor installation and calibration to maintenance and data interpretation, building long-term trust with its clients.

"Rather than talking about smart sensorization, we should talk about seriousness and commitment to the customer," concludes Lázaro. "The first step is to design a customized installation, execute it flawlessly, and offer high-quality after-sales service. That's the real added value of technology."
