Battery storage complements solar panels and bolsters the energy position of pepper grower

Solar parks on water basins and other dual-use spaces such as rooftops and embankments, have become a familiar sight in modern horticulture. Yet in today's energy market, simply generating power is no longer the most profitable or sustainable approach.

To take things a step further, Aquasol Solar installed a Sigenergy Energy Storage System (EOS) this Wednesday at Hot Pepper King in the Netherlands, on behalf of Oxin Growers. With this system, the South Holland-based grower can now manage energy generation and usage in a fully sustainable and flexible way.

Hot Pepper King's Joost van Luijk is thrilled with the upgrade. "With this system, we can use our own energy whenever and however we want. Aquasol Solar really delivered on their promise. From now on, we're part of the new formula: Generate + Store = Use Flexibly," he says with a smile.

Aquasol Solar co-founder Willem Verwoerd shares the excitement. "By installing this EOS, we're expanding our services into a complete solution that gives growers full control over their own energy. The current energy market demands self-regulating systems that strengthen growers' competitive position. Our modular battery system can be customized and scaled to match actual needs and consumption, starting at 216 kWh and growing to as much as 20 MWh of storage capacity."

Together with partners—including the manufacturer and the insurer—Aquasol Solar developed a detailed feasibility study with various operational scenarios. "Combined with our 'Seven Safeguards', before, during, and after installation, this makes for a truly distinctive proposition in the greenhouse horticulture sector," Willem adds.

Founded in 2020 by Willem Verwoerd and Hans van Luijk, Aquasol Solar has already completed numerous projects featuring floating solar panels on water basins. The company has since expanded its expertise to other dual-use areas such as rooftops, embankments, and now battery storage systems as well.
