Following its participation at Fruit Attraction 2025 in Madrid, Food Freshly presented new developments in shelf-life extension for blueberries and other delicate fruits. The company also plans to showcase these technologies this week at the Global Produce & Floral Show (GPFS) in Anaheim, California, taking place on October 17–18, 2025.
The focus of the presentations is the challenge of maintaining quality and freshness in blueberries, which are sensitive to handling, transportation, and storage. Food Freshly demonstrated its plant-based antioxidant formulations designed to extend the shelf life of fresh-cut produce while preserving color and texture. In addition, the company introduced a new washing technology for fruits and vegetables, currently undergoing pilot testing, aimed at reducing microbial load and maintaining product integrity.
According to Daniel Villar Romero, Director of Research and Product Development, the company's two-step washing process is intended to provide a sustainable approach to maintaining freshness and quality in berry products. "Especially with sensitive fruits like blueberries, every detail in the process matters," he said.
The method differs from conventional disinfection techniques by relying only on EU- and US FDA-approved food-grade ingredients. Early trials conducted with partners in the fresh-cut sector reportedly indicate improved shelf life and lower levels of bacterial and mold contamination.
Following the Madrid exhibition, the company is shifting its focus to the US produce market, where it has been active for more than 15 years. It also operates a production facility in the United States, established in 2020. Managing Director and Director of Sales Benjamin Singh said the company aims to continue developing solutions that enhance shelf life and food safety for fruit and vegetable producers.
