High levels of the pesticide methomyl, which is harmful to humans, have been found in red peppers produced in North Macedonia, the European Food Safety System (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed – RASFF) announced, regional media reported. As stated in the press release of this European organization, in peppers imported to Croatia from Macedonia, after official market control, the aforementioned harmful substance was found at a level of 0.049 milligrams of methomyl per kilogram.

The permitted content is 0.01 milligrams of methomyl per kilogram, and since the amount found in the products in question was five times this amount, according to the articles, a withdrawal from the European Union market was ordered.
