Armenia reduces greenhouse subsidy rates but continues support program

The Armenian government will continue its program to support the development of greenhouse farms, but will reduce the subsidy rate by 2%, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan announced.

Starting January 1, 2026, the updated scheme will provide loans of up to AMD 3 billion (€6.9 million) subsidized at 8%, loans from AMD 3–9 billion (€6.9–20.7 million) at 7%, and loans from AMD 9–15 billion (€20.7–34.5 million) at 6%. The program also includes a 12-month grace period for both interest and principal payments, with a repayment term of eight years.

Currently, Armenia has approximately 1,500 hectares of greenhouses, with more than 300 hectares equipped with modern technology. Nearly all exported agricultural products, including vegetables, fruits, and flowers, are produced in greenhouses. As of September 2025, agricultural exports totalled 121,800 tons, representing a 12% increase from the previous year.

The greenhouse support program was first approved in July 2023, originally aiming to modernize 35 hectares of greenhouses. According to Papoyan, applications have now been submitted for 60 hectares, with 15 hectares to be completed by the end of the year.

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan noted that the program should focus on export market diversification and improving product certification procedures to reduce losses of perishable goods during transportation.
