Argos Greenhouse Solutions is an Israeli company that has been designing and delivering high-tech, turnkey greenhouse projects since 2005. Their work spans continents and climates, from the snowy expanses of Central Asia to the humid lowlands of Southeast Asia and the emerging agricultural corridors of Africa.
Bar Sharon, Business Development Manager at Argos, shares during her recent talk at the Israel–South Africa Agritech event, their perspective on how modern greenhouse technologies are a necessity, especially in extreme or underserved regions.
"We've had to design greenhouses that can withstand everything from -10°C snowy winters to 50°C scorching summers. These are greenhouses, highly engineered environments capable of year-round production in climates where conventional farming fails."

Projects and examples
One of Argos' standout projects in Central Asia proves that despite the hostile environment, the greenhouses managed to produce high-humidity vegetables in the dead of winter, something that was previously unimaginable for local growers in the region.
"We installed advanced climate control systems and customized structures designed specifically for those unique climate challenges."
"Every project is unique," she emphasizes. "We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model. We work backwards from the market, identifying demand first, then designing the greenhouse, selecting the crop, and building the business model around that."
This philosophy drives their success across diverse regions. Whether it's a high-tech commercial facility for premium tomatoes or a rural initiative focused on chili peppers, Argos adapts its technology and design to meet local needs.
From seedling to supermarket
Argos goes far beyond just greenhouse structures. Their approach includes everything from initial design and technical installation to post-harvest solutions and even market access.
"Our clients often need more than just a place to grow," Bar says. "We can supply post-harvest packing houses, sorting machinery, cold storage, and even training programs. This is about building sustainable agricultural ecosystems for the client."
In Indonesia, for instance, Argos partnered with local government to launch a rural development project involving family-sized greenhouse kits. Each local farmer received a compact, solar-powered greenhouse to grow habanero chili peppers. Seedlings were centrally produced and distributed, and once harvested, produce was collected, packed, and sold, creating a full-cycle agribusiness model that empowered local communities.
"These kits are completely off-grid. They use gravity irrigation systems and solar panels, which means they're ideal for remote areas with little to no infrastructure."

Technology that's cost-effective and scalable
While Argos specializes in high-end, often high-tech solutions, they remain focused on efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
"We try to bring something new to the market, but always with the grower's bottom line in mind. Innovation doesn't help if it's not profitable. So we aim to make advanced systems accessible, not just for big commercial players but also for smaller-scale growers."
Even in projects geared towards rural development, profitability is a key driver. "These aren't charity projects," she clarifies. "They're sustainable, revenue-generating ecosystems that create jobs, strengthen food security, and support local economies."
Entering the African market
Bar's recent relocation to South Africa signals Argos' growing interest in the African continent. "I moved here about a year and a half ago to develop this market," she shares. "We're actively looking for partners, distributors, and pilot opportunities. We want to show what we can do."
Given the continent's diverse climates and rapid urbanization, controlled-environment agriculture could be a game changer for African food systems.
Open field irrigation and more
While greenhouses remain Argos' core focus, their expertise extends to open-field irrigation as well. "We also design and manufacture our own line of sprinklers," she adds. "Right now, they're mainly distributed in India, but we see potential for growth in other regions too."

Local, high-quality, global-standard produce
With the increasing focus on local sourcing and sustainable practices, Argos Greenhouse Solutions wants to offer its vision of high-quality produce, grown locally, using world-class technology.
"When you walk down the supermarket aisle, we want you to pick up something new: something that looks like it was imported from Europe, but was actually grown just down the road," she says with a smile. "That's the power of the right greenhouse technology."
