In the Mahmudiye area of Eskisehir, close to the Ismetpasa neighborhood, one private engineering company is getting ready to investigate for geothermal resources.
Two wells with a maximum depth of 1,200 meters each will be dug on a 4,800-hectare property as part of the project. Work is scheduled for 8 hours a day, 25 days a month. The drilling operation will be carried out by a team of 6 people.
The hot water generated is meant to be used for greenhouse production. The company wants to employ geothermal energy to build technological greenhouse projects that are appropriate for hydroponic agriculture if adequate temperature and flow are reached.
To return water to the groundwater, wells that are judged unproductive will be employed as re-injection wells. The reserve's quantity, quality, and suitability will be assessed at the conclusion of the studies, and a decision regarding whether to move forward with the production phase will be made.
Additionally, there are two major capacity expansions and new drilling plans planned for the Mahmudiye region:
The first expansion plan is about a 2,225-hectare licensed property operating in Mahmudiye's Ismetpasa neighborhood. 4 more drilling points will be added to the current 11 drilling points. The additional wells will reach a depth of about 1,000 meters. The goal is to provide 15.67 MWe of thermal electricity to greenhouses. Along with the creation of 50 jobs, the project also aims to build over 57.5 hectares of greenhouses.
The second expansion plan is underway in the 10,000-hectare licensed area. 4 more wells are intended to be drilled to increase the number of wells to 29. Even though some of these wells are situated on other businesses' property, the required permissions have been secured. The company now uses two wells for re-injection and five wells for production. Increasing field capacity and using geothermal energy for agricultural greenhouse operations are the goals of the new wells.
The Eskisehir Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change examined the project files created for both businesses and declared that an Environmental Impact Report is not required." This enables drilling activities to proceed in a way that is both legally compliant and environmentally sound.
