CAN: Center for Horticultural Innovation unveils new brand identity

The Center for Horticultural Innovation, has announced a complete rebrand under the new name, Biophi. This change aims to better reflect the organization's evolution and its expanding role within the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry. Biophi's new identity, centered around the concept of "Growing Possibilities," seeks to inspire forward-thinking solutions that benefit not only growers and suppliers but also the entire industry.

Founded in 2020, Biophi serves as a hub of horticultural innovation dedicated to advancing research and development in the realm of controlled environment agriculture. Through applied research and industry-driven collaborations, Biophi positions itself as the go-to partner for both growers and suppliers, effectively bridging the gap between research and practical application to transform challenges into scalable solutions.

As part of its transformation, Biophi has unveiled a refreshed visual identity and updated messaging designed to underscore its commitment to research, collaboration, and progress across the industry. This rebranding initiative was developed in collaboration with global design studio Bruce Mau Design (BMD), which repositioned Biophi as the industry's practical problem solver through a comprehensive new brand platform, including a new name, tone of voice, and visual identity. The stencil wordmark is designed to convey agility and a 'ready-to-act' attitude, while the encircled monogram serves as a mark of authority. A predominantly white palette emphasizes science and precision, complemented by colors inspired by Biophi's technologies, such as LED lighting.

Laura Stein, BMD's Chief Creative Officer, reflected on the collaboration, noting that partnering with Biophi involved capturing their unique role as both innovators and problem solvers in horticulture. By immersing themselves in Biophi's world—visiting greenhouses, conversing with growers, and understanding the challenges of controlled environment agriculture—BMD translated Biophi's hands-on, forward-looking spirit into a bold, practical, and future-facing brand system. The new Biophi identity not only embodies who they are today but also highlights their commitment to growing possibilities for the entire industry.

"Adopting the Biophi identity allows us to better represent who we are today: a collaborative hub accelerating horticultural innovation," said Matt Korpan, Executive Director of R&D Operations at Biophi. "This refresh tells our story as a future-facing problem solver, empowering growers and partners with real-world solutions."

The rollout of the Biophi brand will be showcased across the organization's website, LinkedIn, facility, and communications starting September 18th.
