Last week, average prices for tomatoes, cucumbers, and red and yellow peppers rose at the auctions of the Association of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives (VBT). For peppers, however, this slight improvement cannot make up for what has been a difficult season overall. The uptick in prices is mainly attributed to a small dip in production. Despite the increase, the average cucumber price still remains below the five-year average.

For tomatoes, the average price of vine tomatoes reached €0.97 per kilo, which is exactly in line with the five-year average. Loose tomatoes came in just below, at €0.94 per kilo.
Cucumbers averaged just under €0.30 apiece in week 37. Lettuce also continues to struggle, with heads selling for only €0.28 each on average.
