Eight tons of contaminated open-field grown Albanian tomatoes seized in Croatia

The State Police has announced that three people have been arrested in Berat by order of the Prosecutor's Office after authorities in Croatia blocked and then destroyed about 8 tons of tomatoes imported from Albania that were found to contain high levels of pesticides.

The Police announcement states that the administrator of the entity that produced and exported vegetables with high levels of the preparation "Chlorfenapyr" to the Croatian state, as well as with fictitious purchase invoices, has been arrested, as well as two inspectors of the AKU Berat, after they fictitiously completed the internship during the inspection they conducted at this entity.

"Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Special Operational Force and under the direction of the Berat Prosecutor's Office, after receiving information that a subject was collecting and exporting vegetables, for which there was illegality in the export, organized the work and finalized the 'Again' operation. During the operation, 3 citizens were arrested," the report states.

The arrested persons are MQ, 40 years old, resident of Kuçovë, administrator of the vegetable collection and export entity, RL, 27 years old, resident of Tirana, and GL, 25 years old, resident of Berat, both inspectors of the Berat AKU.
