62 million euro investment

Turkey: Greenhouse zone being established in Batman

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli announced the establishment of a 62 million euro greenhouse organized agricultural zone (OTB) in Batman.

Minister Yumakli stated that 30,000 tons of vegetables will be produced annually and that they estimate the area will contribute 25 million USD to the economy.

In a written statement on the matter, Minister Yumakli stated that they have launched organized agricultural zones for plant and animal production in various regions and provinces. Minister Yumakli emphasized that they plan OTBs based on the provinces' agrarian production, stating that they are utilizing the region's natural resources and preparing agricultural and industrial areas with fully equipped infrastructure for farming businesses and industrialists.

"We provide a structure where agricultural production occurs, packaging and similar needs are met, and products are sent to market. With the organized agricultural zones we have established to increase fresh produce production, we aim to deliver the products our country needs to consumers under favorable conditions and at affordable prices. Hopefully, we will see the results of these efforts with the organized agricultural zones we are gradually putting into operation."

Yumakli also reminded that Turkiye ranks 7th in the world regarding agricultural output. Minister Yumakli also stated that they are continuing their investments in agriculture, adding that they have granted legal entity status to the Batman Greenhouse OTB and that the OTB will create 1,500 jobs: "The Batman Greenhouse OTB, which will be built on a total area of 110 hectares, will employ 1,500 people, 75% of whom will be women. We aim to begin production at the Batman Greenhouse OTB in the second half of 2026, producing 30,000 tons of vegetables annually." 50% of the greenhouse vegetables produced in Batman will be grown in this greenhouse OTB.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli stated that the investment process for 61 OTB projects nationwide is ongoing and shared the following information: The investment process for 61 OTB projects is continuing in 42 provinces. We have granted 45 legal entity status including the Batman Greenhouse OTB. Of the OTBs that have gained legal entity status, 20 are in animal production, 24 are in plant production (15 are geothermal greenhouse OTBs), and one is in aquaculture. I hope that our newly legalized Batman Greenhouse OTB will benefit our country, our region, and our entire nation."
