Gemüse Grob AG invests around CHF 10 million in updating greenhouse

Gemüse Grob AG, based in Basadingen-Schlattingen (Switzerland), has announced new development plans with an investment of around CHF 10 million. The company already operates with geothermal, photovoltaic, and biogas systems and is preparing the next expansion stage.

Since 22 August 2025, plans for the replacement and construction of a greenhouse have been publicly available. The project includes dismantling buildings from the 1990s, reusing existing foundations where possible, and constructing a new greenhouse made entirely of safety glass instead of plastic.

A biomass utilization facility is also part of the expansion. According to the company, the plant will convert about 15,000 tons of organic waste per year into biogas, generating electricity and heat. Commissioning is planned for mid-2026. Together with photovoltaic installations, geothermal systems, and the use of waste heat, Gemüse Grob AG aims to increase its energy self-sufficiency from 70% to around 90% by the end of 2026.

Construction will be carried out in several stages, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the biomass facility scheduled for this autumn. Gemüse Grob AG reports that local companies will be involved in the work to support regional value creation.
