Tomato prices in the European Union remained high in August, following the same trend as in July. The average price per kilo stood at €1.56.

That average, however, doesn't mean prices were strong everywhere on the European Commission's tomato dashboard. In fact, prices for cherry and specialty tomatoes dropped in several countries compared to July. The Netherlands proved to be the big exception, recording an average price of €2.66 per kilo. That's a striking 86 percent above the five-year average and 24 percent higher than in July.
