An historic business in North Sydney is up for sale. Earl's Greenhouse, which has been in operation since 1923, has been on the market since late December of 2024. Earl MacPherson took ownership in 1973.
MacPherson, 73, said he doesn't want to retire but doesn't want to leave the burden of the business on his wife, Anne, if something happens to him. In fact, he said he'd be willing to help out the new owners with the business if they needed him.
"I'd stay if somebody wanted me to stay on for the next season. I'd have no problem doing that, to help out," said MacPherson. "Because I got a different niche than a lot of the others.
"We have some large dracaenas – everybody thinks they're palm trees – but I have one that just fits in this building. Governor's Restaurant, all the (dracaenas) that are there, we store them here. Not everybody can store them. I have the facility here that I can store them.
