Across the Netherlands, more and more caravans and campers are being stored in former greenhouses that once grew vegetables, fruit, or flowers. In Groenlo, however, camper and caravan specialist Henk Pen is taking a different approach. On the Laarberg business park, a completely new complex is being built, based on a greenhouse structure, topped with more than 14,000 solar panels.
The complex will cover nearly 3 hectares. With an installed capacity of 7.2 MW, the solar roof will feed directly into the local energy hub. That means other companies on the site, many of which struggle with grid congestion, will be able to use electricity generated on the storage roof. In turn, this creates room for further growth of both existing businesses and new arrivals.
Construction updates are regularly shared on Henk Pen's own website, and the storage facility is set to open in October. Several greenhouse builders are involved in the project, including Nobutec, Batist Kassenbouw, and Kort Kassenbouw, making this a true crossover between horticultural know-how and sustainable energy innovation.
