The tomato harvest has begun in Eastern Kurdistan, employing around 30,000 people across the region. In Kamyaran, Sanadaj (Sine) province, 1,200 hectares have been planted, with expected yields of over 100,000 tons, nearly half of the province's total output.
Farmer Ardashir Minbari said he planted eight hectares this year. "From each hectare, we expect between 100 to 150 tons of industrial-use tomatoes and 100 to 120 tons of fresh produce for the market," he told Kurdistan24. Average output in Kamyaran stands at 80 tons per hectare, according to Kamal Rostami of the Agricultural Jihad Department.
The harvest lasts about a month and already employs 5,000 people in Kamyaran. Worker Bahareh Zeynolabedini said, "I work during this harvest with my school-aged children to cover our living expenses."Across Urmiya, Sine, and Kermashan provinces, production is forecast to exceed 600,000 tons, with surplus volumes intended for export.
