A strategic partnership between Concert Bio and Harvest House is taking on the challenge of root diseases in peppers, using advanced microbiome technology.
According to Paul Rutten, CEO of Concert Bio: "Every two weeks we take samples, process the data in our lab, and discuss the results with the growers. Root disease is a major problem that can affect entire greenhouses. By analyzing microbiome data, we can better understand what is happening in the root zone."
Lienemijn Verploeg, Innovation Manager at Harvest House, underlines the global relevance: "Root disease impacts pepper crops worldwide, from the Netherlands to Canada, and despite extensive research, the exact cause remains unclear. Paul is helping us to understand what's happening around the plant roots, and that knowledge is key to finding a solution."

The collaboration delivers value for both Concert Bio and Harvest House. Paul: "By combining microbiome data with environmental and yield data, we can develop predictive models and cultivate beneficial microbes. The data from Harvest House's various greenhouses will improve our future models."
Continuation of the project next year depends on the value that Harvest House growers see in the results, Lienemijn concludes.
