Brazilian greenhouse project with a Dutch touch commences

Construction has begun on phase 3 of the greenhouse project Fonte Verde Agro. The 3-hectare plot for this expansion had already been prepared for a new greenhouse — no small task, given the significant differences in ground level on the site.

Now that building is underway, the Dutch-Brazilian project expects to start planting in six months and to harvest tomatoes within eight months, shares Arjan Kouwenhoven on LinkedIn (link in Portuguese). The greenhouse is being built by Compas Construction, with technologies supplied and installed by a range of partners.

Arjan first came to Brazil in 2011, and the idea of realizing a greenhouse horticulture project there was born. In 2020, it finally became a reality after he managed to buy land with his wife in 2018, in Andradas, about a four-hour drive from Sao Paulo.

In total, the project with phase 3 will cover 6 hectares. There is still room on the site for 6 additional hectares of greenhouses.
