Kazakhstan’s tomato exports drop while cucumber shipments surge

From January to May 2025, Kazakhstan imported 40,400 tonnes of tomatoes, the same volume as in the same period last year, worth $35.7 million (€32.6 million). Turkmenistan remained the leading supplier with 26,700 tonnes (-5.5%), followed by China with 11,300 tonnes (+27.1%), Uzbekistan with 1,100 tonnes (-1.9 times), Iran with 946 tonnes (+1.5 times), and Russia with 2,100 tonnes (+2.2 times). Smaller volumes came from Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Cucumber and gherkin imports fell 17.2% to 6,900 tonnes, with Iran supplying 3,500 tonnes (-7.5%), China 2,400 tonnes (-16.5%), and Uzbekistan 532 tonnes (-2.7 times). Additional shipments arrived from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.

On the export side, Kazakhstan shipped 4,600 tonnes of fresh tomatoes, worth $8 million (€7.3 million), down 2.1 times year-on-year. Almost the entire volume went to Russia (4,600 tonnes, -2.2 times), with 56.5 tonnes sent to Belarus, a new market compared to last year.

Cucumber exports, however, nearly tripled to 5,500 tonnes worth $7.8 million (€7.1 million), with Russia and Kyrgyzstan as the main destinations.
