Russia blocks pepper import due to thrips threat

Russia has blocked the import of approximately 14 tons of fresh pepper infected with a quarantine facility into the Moscow region.

ABC.AZ informs that during the inspection, a quarantine facility for the Russian Federation was discovered - Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande).

The cargo owner was notified of the need to take action against the infected quarantined products.

Western flower thrips is one of the most dangerous pests in the closed ground and the most harmful representative of the order of thrips. It affects many different plants, including agricultural and ornamental crops in greenhouses, as well as various weeds.
