First snack tomatoes from Callystar in Morocco arrive at Growers United

The first snack tomatoes from a new cultivation project in Morocco have arrived at Growers United in Maasdijk. This debut harvest from the Callystar project marks the start of a collaboration between Dutch growers Schenkeveld and The Valley, working together with Moroccan entrepreneurs.

Founded in 2024 as a joint venture, Callystar is building an innovative horticultural business in Agadir. By combining Dutch cultivation expertise with local craftsmanship, the company aims to deliver sustainable, efficient tomato production in North Africa.

Under the leadership of General Manager Abdelghani Meghras and Project Manager Jop Hendriks, the team is pursuing a smart, forward-looking approach. The snack tomatoes are grown on coconut substrate, with sensors precisely regulating irrigation based on the plants' needs. Trials with water recirculation and the use of solar energy further strengthen the project's sustainability ambitions.

After an intensive preparation phase, including securing the right location, making significant investments, and constructing modern greenhouses, the first harvest is now a reality. Freshly picked snack tomatoes have arrived at Growers United and are ready for delivery to retailers across Europe.

"This is a fantastic result of teamwork, dedication, and a shared vision for the future of sustainable food production," says the Callystar team. "And this is just the beginning."
