A 10-hectare greenhouse project is planned near Ust-Kamenogorsk (Oskemen), East Kazakhstan, at the site of a former greenhouse facility in the Sogra district. The project is led by Center Project LLP with support from the regional government.
The planned investment exceeds $40 million. If completed on schedule, the facility could be operational within a few years, with a projected payback period of around six years. It will mainly focus on growing tomatoes and other vegetables in a controlled environment.
The greenhouse aims to supply local markets year-round and export up to 50% of production to nearby Russian regions. The expected output is between 5,000 and 7,000 tons annually.
The developers say the facility will use modern Dutch greenhouse technology, including automated climate control, irrigation, and harvesting systems. The location was chosen in part due to its access to rail links and a nearby power plant, which should help reduce energy costs.
The vegetables will be grown without GMOs and in line with food safety requirements. The project is expected to improve the region's vegetable supply, especially during the colder months, and reduce reliance on imported produce.
