ZVG calls for approval of plant protection products

"The situation is already dramatic for many specialty crops"

The Central Horticultural Association (ZVG) welcomes the announcement by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture that it will address the improvement of the approval situation for plant protection products, as enshrined in the coalition agreement, in a timely manner. "The availability of effective plant protection products in horticulture is steadily declining – for many special crops, the situation is already dramatic," said ZVG Deputy Secretary General Dr. Hans Joachim Brinkjans (right). This not only endangers individual crops but also has medium- to long-term effects on the entire range of crops grown. The level of self-sufficiency in Germany could also decline further.

The ZVG is appealing to politicians to swiftly implement the announced reforms: "This is the only way to ensure the diversity and competitiveness of special crops in Germany," emphasizes Brinkjans. In the past, the ZVG has already submitted concrete proposals for solutions – but these proposals have not yet been considered. With today's step, the profession hopes that the urgently needed measures will now be implemented with determination.
