MSC Invernaderos:

"The Middle East is experiencing a significant growth in greenhouse acreage, creating new opportunities"

Knowing how to adapt to every climate, crop, and need has helped the Spanish company MSC Invernaderos establish itself as an important international greenhouse manufacturer in the fruit and vegetable sector.

"We are a family company with more than 35 years of experience. Our headquarters are in Seville, and our manufacturing plants are in Pamplona and Mexico," stated Maria Rodriguez, head of international projects, at the recent edition of Green Tech in Amsterdam, where MSC participated as an exhibitor. "This allows us to operate efficiently both in Europe and Latin America, as well as in the other continents where MSC has installed its structures."

"Each greenhouse is designed exclusively for the customer. We manufacture solutions for any type of climate and all activities: Greenhouses to grow vegetables or flowers, produce shrimp or worms, and even scientific research greenhouses, as we have recently done in Africa," she said. "In Peru, we are installing greenhouses for the production of trees to reforest areas impacted by mining."

"Flexibility is our strong point. That's why more and more crops can take advantage of the protection provided by greenhouses. For example, MSC has carried out a project for the cultivation of cherries under greenhouse conditions, which is not common at all. In addition to protecting the fruit from bad weather, greenhouse production allows harvesting the fruit earlier and getting better market prices. This project has attracted a lot of international attention," stated Javier Ayuzo, the company's Chief Sales Officer.

Global expansion
MSC's structures and greenhouses are spread all over the world. Mexico is currently one of its strongest markets. "It is by far our biggest market. Mexico is the United States' biggest supplier of fruit and vegetables, thanks to its proximity, and protected agriculture has boomed there in recent years. In addition, it is one of the most stable markets," Javier stated.

"In many other areas of the world, the sector's growth goes hand in hand with the economic context. For example, Venezuela used to be an important country for us. We built 60 hectares of greenhouses there in just two years, but suddenly, because of the country's economy, growth came to a halt."

"This trend in spurts also takes place in African countries. At the moment, however, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are experiencing a very interesting expansion in greenhouse hectares and opening up new opportunities. Both countries are opting to increase their own production and guarantee food security, in many cases, through government investments. To this end, they are investing in greenhouse agriculture and technification."

Technology is advancing rapidly. Today, it's possible to carry out projects that optimize production costs and increase crop productivity and profitability. We expect the production areas, both the new ones and those in which greenhouse agriculture is already consolidated, will become more technified."

"Spain, for example, is already a developed market. However, the vast majority of the greenhouses in Almeria are traditional greenhouses. The change to higher structures that facilitate cultivation, allow greater climate control, and increase efficiency will be a slow but inevitable process. It's a process that we're already seeing in Huelva."

"The change might be happening faster there because of the higher value of Huelva's main crop: berries. Huelva is an example of the direction the sector will take. MSC will accompany the sector in this step towards greater efficiency."

Upcoming appointments
After attending the major international events in the first half of 2025, MSC is preparing for Fruit Attraction (Madrid), Agrame (Dubai), and the largest agricultural fair in Africa: SARA (Ivory Coast). "We want to keep exploring emerging markets, and West Africa is one of the most important areas on the continent right now."
