Asparagus
Asparagus from Mexico crossing through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to remain stable. Early trading was moderate but slowed later in the day. Prices are lower, with 11-pound cartons/crates bunched large mostly at $18.75–20.75 and standard at $14.75–16.75. Some sales are open with prices to be set later. Peruvian imports via Southern California ports are steady, with slightly higher prices. Jumbo is $34.00–36.75, extra-large mostly $28.00–30.00, large $22.00–22.95, and standard mostly $20.00.
Avocado
Mexican avocado movement through Texas remains consistent. Trading for 32–40s is fairly slow, while other sizes are active. Conventional 36–40s and organic 48s are lower; 60–84s are higher. Hass 2-layer cartons show 32s at $52.25–54.25, 36s at $49.25–51.25, 40s mostly $44.25–46.25, and 48s mostly $42.25–45.25. Organic 48s are $70.25, 60s are at $62.25–64.25. Peruvian imports through the Northeast ports show moderate trading with slightly higher prices; 40s are mostly $32.00–34.00, 48–60s are mostly $30.00–32.00. The California South District movement is slightly down.
Blueberry
Blueberry movement from Oregon and Washington is steady, with fairly active trading and unchanged prices. Flats of 12 6-oz cups with lids are mostly $14.00–16.00, 12 1-pint cups mostly $19.00–21.00. Organic equivalents are mostly $17.00–19.00 and $26.00–29.00, respectively. Peruvian imports are increasing, but supplies are too limited to establish a market. Chilean imports are declining as the season ends. British Columbia shipments are rising, with Canada One 12 1-pint cups medium-large mostly $18.00–20.00.
Cucumber
Cucumber movement from Mexico via Otay Mesa is steady. Early trading was moderate but slowed later. Prices for 36s are lower; others are slightly down. 1 1/9-bushel cartons medium are mostly $14.00–15.00, large are mostly $13.00–14.00, and 36s are mostly $8.00. In Texas, movement is decreasing. Trading for large sizes is active, medium moderate. Medium mostly $17.95–18.95, large $20.95–22.95. Quality varies.
Bell Pepper
Harvest in California's San Joaquin Valley is set to begin the week of July 20, with generally good quality expected. The first F.O.B. report is expected the week of July 27.
Tomato
Tomato movement from California's Central District remains steady with active trading and stable prices. 25-pound loose cartons of Mature Greens, extra-large, large, and medium, are $8.35. Mexican crossings through Texas remain steady; trading is moderate with slightly higher prices on 4x4–5x5s. Vine Ripes 2-layer 4x4–4x5s are mostly $13.95–14.95, 5x5s at $11.95–12.95. From Otay Mesa, trading is active with much higher prices.
