Ukraine: Strawberry, raspberry production damaged by freezing weather for a second year

After the full-scale invasion began, the berry cultivation enterprise moved from Kharkiv region to Malynska community in Zhytomyr region. Currently, they grow strawberries there and are establishing a raspberry plantation.

An entrepreneur from the Kharkiv region, Oleksandr Slastin, has been engaged in berry cultivation for over 25 years. In April 2022, due to the full-scale invasion, he relocated his business to the Zhytomyr region and founded the Malyn Plant enterprise.

"This is probably the love of life. When you go out to the plantation and see these beautiful, tasty berries, it's something magical. Three years ago, we started working in the Malyn community. Here, the conditions suited us best – both soil-climatic and relatively safe region. Also, the friendly reception of us as young beginners in Zhytomyr region played an important role. Today, you can already see how our enterprise has grown," said Oleksandr Slastin.

According to Oleksandr, the enterprise uses about 70 hectares of land for berry cultivation, with 25 hectares dedicated to garden strawberries.
