Indonesia and the Netherlands have agreed to cooperate in the development of greenhouse-based horticulture as a strategic move to enhance food security and promote sustainable agriculture.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, and Guido Landheer, Deputy Director-General for Agro at the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality, which was held in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Sudaryono emphasized the importance of involving younger generation in modern farming practices as part of efforts to ensure the regeneration of Indonesia's farming community.
"We need more young Indonesians to get involved in horticulture using greenhouse technology," he said, while underlining the need for innovation-driven youth participation.
He acknowledged that while greenhouse farming may require a significant upfront investment compared to traditional methods, it offers long-term benefits through higher productivity and cost efficiency.
