On Saturday, May 31, 2025, severe storms with heavy thunderstorms, rain, and hail swept across large parts of North Rhine-Westphalia. The southern half of North Rhine-Westphalia and the left bank of the Lower Rhine were particularly affected.
Gartenbau-Versicherung has currently received damage reports from over 100 businesses. Outdoor crops, including callunas and perennials, have been severely impacted. Greenhouses also suffered serious damage, including two major incidents involving widespread destruction of glass panes. Initial estimates put the total damage at seven figures.
"Our members face major economic and emotional challenges after such events – whether due to destroyed crops, damaged greenhouses or the loss of planned deliveries. Our goal is to support them quickly and unbureaucratically," explains Dennis Hölzer, Head of National Sales at Gartenbau-Versicherung.
Since the weekend, Gartenbau-Versicherung's risk consultants have been working across the region to assess the damage as quickly as possible. This is a prerequisite for the swift settlement and payment of compensation. Gartenbau-Versicherung is in close contact with the member companies affected and is coordinating further processing with the highest priority.
