The exceptionally sunny spring, which brought increased sunlight, has led to high production levels but has resulted in insufficient prices for fruit and vegetables. This is the conclusion drawn by Boerenbond after analyzing the VBT figures. The latest figures for week 22 indicate a slight price increase for vine tomatoes, higher pepper prices, and a slight decrease in cucumber prices.

From the Boerenbond update: "Tomatoes are currently priced at only €0.45 - €0.50 per kilogram, flirting with the edge of profitability. While prices took a downturn in April, they have now stabilized somewhat."

The prices of bell peppers are beginning to stabilize following several turbulent weeks: yellow and red increased from €0.50 to €1 per kg due to reduced production. Aubergines remain weak with €0.50 per kg due to high local production and competition from Southern European supply. Cucumber prices are steady at €0.25 to €0.30 each, but are below last year's levels. The mid-price for zucchini dropped again, but good quality still fetches €0.35 each.

During this period, the lettuce market typically faces competition from Southern European imports, mainly from Italy, resulting in subpar prices. For instance, iceberg lettuce prices have dropped to €0.30 each. Other types of lettuce are similarly affected, with Bionda also experiencing weak prices ranging from €0.25 to €0.30 each.

Strawberries are bouncing back after a challenging week. With a reduced supply, partly due to overcast days and increased exports, the price rose by €1 to €1.50 per kilogram. Meanwhile, raspberries and blackberries are in full production and fetching appropriate prices. Additionally, cherry production is gradually beginning.
