In 2025, Dutch company Greefa commemorates its 85th anniversary. Founded in 1940 as a small cartwright's workshop in the fruit-growing region of the Netherlands, the company has developed into a global supplier of sorting and packing solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector.

Greefa's origins trace back to the De Greef brothers, who engineered a mechanical sorting solution for a local fruit grower, sparking the company's future in automated handling systems. Over the decades, Greefa has expanded its offerings to include technology for sorting not only fruit, but also vegetables and greenhouse-grown products. Its early development of camera-based color sorting, initially applied to tomatoes, marked a key step in its transition to advanced automation.

Today, Greefa equipment is in operation across multiple continents, including markets in Japan, Canada, Chile, and New Zealand. Despite this global reach, its main operations—including engineering, technical development, and service—remain based in Tricht, the Netherlands.

In recognition of its 85th year, Greefa organized a study trip to Italy for its staff. The visit, held in three groups and involving around 150 employees, included tours of customer facilities and opportunities to engage with international partners. The anniversary reflects both the company's historical roots and its continuing role in developing technology for the evolving needs of growers and packers worldwide.
