The berries sub-sector continues to lead the resurgence of the horticulture industry, with a 351 percent increase in export earnings from $11 million in 2020 to $50 million in 2024.
Statistics released by Zimbabwe's national trade development and promotion organization (ZimTrade), from TradeMap 2025, show that the country's earnings from berry exports increased from $11.124 million in 2020 to $50.137 million last year. In terms of volume, exports rose from 2,503 to 6,240 tons over the same period.
The Netherlands was the leading buyer, accounting for 29 percent of the earnings in 2024 with $14.513 million, followed by Hong Kong, China, at 22 percent with $10.9 million, while Germany came in third with 14 percent, earning $7.2 million.
Although Hong Kong, China, was in third place in terms of export volume in 2024, it swapped positions with Germany to claim second place due to higher prices. Hong Kong, China, led with an average price of $14 per kilogram, followed by Singapore at $12, and Germany paying $9.
