Ukraine expects strawberry shortage thanks to unfavorable weather

The President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, Leonid Kozachenko, predicts a seasonal shortage of strawberries. The expert claims that this is all due to unfavorable weather conditions this spring, so the prices for berries will be a bit higher.

According to Leonid Kozachenko, in the first half of May, there will be very few strawberries, so low prices should not be expected at least in the coming weeks.

"The problem is not only the war – we are talking about weather and climatic conditions. There was not enough warmth, we were counting on more, but the main issue is the lack of moisture that we need to cover now. However, we lack both funds and other necessary material-technical resources for this. And this will slightly affect the cost. In other words, strawberries will be more expensive than last year," the expert predicts.

Meanwhile, the local strawberry season has started in Bukovyna. Farmers are announcing the initial prices at 120-150 UAH/kg. At the same time, they also assure that cheap strawberries should not be expected in the peak of the season.
