Last week, the cucumber price increased further at the auctions of the Union of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives (VBT). In week 18, each cucumber cost more than €0.50. The cucumber price in Belgium also rose around this time last year, so currently cucumber prices are staying consistent with what happened a year ago.

For the tomato market, the current price formation is also in line with last year, but here prices are below average. The price per kilo for loose tomatoes is on average 69 euro cents, and for vine tomatoes 70 euro cents.

Recently, bell pepper prices have also dropped significantly, with prices for green and red peppers comparable in week 18 to week 17. The price for green has risen, however, to €1.61 per kilo.

Along with the average price for cucumber, the price of lettuce is also rising, with the average price for week 18 being over €0.55 per piece.

As sunny weather takes hold of Northwestern Europe, strawberry season has started for the year, though the average price is slightly higher than in previous years, with a price per kilo at €4.58 for week 18.
