Bangladesh: Strawberries now being cultivated on Teesta River shores

Strawberry, a delicious and nutritious fruit, is now being cultivated on different shoals within the Teesta River in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts.

According to officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension, strawberries are being cultivated on a total of 15 acres of land in Kurigram and four acres in Lalmonirhat. Some are getting good yields, and some are not. Sapling selection is very important for getting a good yield of strawberry production.

Shariful Islam, 50, a farmer of Nazimkhan village under Kurigram's Rajarhat upazila, had cultivated strawberries on one acre of land and got a good yield.

"I spent Tk 11.5 lakh for the cultivation and have already sold strawberries worth Tk 16 lakh. I'm hoping to sell strawberries worth another Tk 3-4 lakh," he said.
