Morocco is expanding its fresh raspberry exports to the United Kingdom, according to EastFruit. In the 2023/24 season, Moroccan traders delivered a record volume of berries to the UK market. In the first six months of the current season, exports reached 5.7 thousand tons, more than double the amount from the previous season and 41% higher than in 2022/23. Export revenue also hit a record $52 million.
The export period for Moroccan raspberries to the UK runs from September to June, with the peak from January to May. This suggests the potential for exports to surpass past records this season. The UK, among the top five raspberry importers, remains the primary destination for Moroccan raspberries. Last season, 32% of Morocco's total raspberry exports went to the UK. Fresh raspberries are the top revenue-generating export within Morocco's fruit segment.
Morocco is the leading supplier of fresh raspberries to the UK, accounting for about 50% of total imports. Spain, the second-largest exporter, supplied 37% in the 2023/24 season. With the current season's shipments only four months in and the peak still to come, expectations are that exports may break previous records. Additionally, Morocco became the second-largest raspberry exporter globally in 2024, following Mexico.
