In New England, United States, summer months are celebrated with more than fresh-picked peaches and blueberries. But they're also celebrated with ripe tomatoes. And perhaps this is something Bay Staters know best.
In Massachusetts, local growers produce approximately 5.9 million pounds of tomatoes annually across 739 farms and 520 acres of land, according to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR).
Every year, the agency recognizes a handful of Massachusetts' most outstanding tomatoes across several categories. That includes the best-slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and the heaviest overall.
