"Strawberries with asparagus: it's like a red rag on a bull"

Ernie van der Kolk from Dalfsen wanted to become a farmer from a young age. And he succeeded, despite not being able to take over his father's farm, he tells RTV Oost.

After a cautious start with asparagus, Ernie asked himself: what are products that people are willing to make a detour for? His answer: asparagus, strawberries and cherries. "Strawberries with asparagus: it's like a red rag on a bull. When people buy asparagus here, they always take a bowl of strawberries with them."

What once started with a few asparagus plants has grown into a diverse business that also includes apples, pears, grapes and redcurrants.
