New irrigation solution to bring water insights to growers

By 2025, two-thirds of the global population is expected to face severe water shortages, with regions like Mexico and Morocco already under critical strain. Growers need to rethink their approach to managing water resources, utilizing more precise data to make informed irrigation decisions.

To meet this need, WayBeyond, a provider of digital agronomy solutions for protected cropping agriculture, launched an irrigation solution as part of its modular FarmRoad platform. The new solution, Drip and Drain monitoring, provides data-informed irrigation decisions for growers.

FarmRoad's Drip and Drain monitoring tool allows growers to capture drip irrigation measurements directly on their devices. Digitizing drip and drain data at its source eliminates the need for farm workers to manually transcribe and input data into spreadsheets, reducing the risk of errors and saving valuable time. In addition, FarmRoad automates drain percentage and per plant volume calculations, giving agronomists accurate insights into their farm's irrigation performance to support proactive decision-making throughout the day.

Streamlined irrigation practices for better water allocation
The Drip and Drain monitoring solution is the first feature from FarmRoad's Irrigation module, which was developed based on grower requests to streamline their irrigation practices through precise and reliable data collection, analysis and insights.

"We developed this tool because growers around the world are having to adapt to the challenges of changing climates and carefully manage the efficiency and sustainability of their water use," said Darryn Keiller, Founder and CEO of WayBeyond. "With our Drip and Drain Monitoring, growers can unify and visualize irrigation data to inform their key decisions and this helps them conserve and apply water resources more efficiently."

FarmRoad data insights enable growers to make daily operational decisions that steer crop growth and optimize resource efficiency. By continuously monitoring each irrigation event and utilizing data insights, growers can enhance crop quality and increase harvest yields while fostering sustainable farming practices.

"When combined with the actionable climate and agronomy data available in FarmRoad, growers gain a superior view of their growing conditions and this enables them to adjust irrigation schedules and respond effectively to their changing environmental factors," Keiller explains.

Open API
FarmRoad utilizes an open API for third-party integrations so customers can easily integrate industry-leading irrigation systems such as Netafim and AquaSpy. The FarmRoad platform unifies all the collected data for growers to use.

WayBeyond's solutions cater to both large-scale growers and seed producers, and the company is trusted by horticulture leaders worldwide – Bayer Crop Science, African Blue and Azura Group. With a focus on customer support and agronomy services, WayBeyond ensures that growers can fully benefit from adopting digital agronomy.

WayBeyond is further expanding the FarmRoad Irrigation module and will be announcing additional features for growers over the coming months.

FarmRoad
WayBeyond's flagship crop management software, FarmRoad, provides growers with a clearer picture of their growing environments, plant health, and pest and disease outbreaks, enabling them to respond to daily farm challenges with certainty and improve growing practices. Based in New Zealand and San Francisco and in key protected cropping markets including Mexico and Morocco, WayBeyond takes pride in understanding growers' unique challenges, crops, local growing environment, and sustainability goals.
