Every year, the Viennese gardening family Kasehs harvests around 2 million cucumbers and primarily sells the greenhouse vegetables in Vienna. The family business has been connected to the district heating system since 1995 and is currently managed by Karl Kasehs Jr. alongside his parents. "In the past, we heated our nursery with oil boilers. It was laborious, and maintenance was time-consuming. I remember my father having to get up in the middle of the night to keep the system running. Since switching to district heating, we've saved time and energy and can sleep through the night," Kasehs Jr. told the Kronen Zeitung.
Thanks to the district heating, the grower always manages to maintain the perfect temperature in his greenhouses, ensuring the vegetables have ideal growing conditions and thus preventing the formation of fungal diseases. This makes it completely unnecessary to use pesticides. "Top quality in every aspect is very important to us," explains Karl Kasehs Jr. "The district heating from Wien Energie helps us ensure this quality all year round."
