UK government faces backlash over supermarket food shortages

In the UK, the government has been criticized for not addressing the food shortages in supermarkets. Tesco and Morrisons have limited sales of certain fruits and vegetables.

Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse, speaking in the House of Commons, accused the government of ignoring the problem. The Liberal Democrats have called for a Cobra meeting to find a solution, involving food experts, supermarkets, and farmers.

Environment Secretary Thérèse Coffey responded, attributing the shortages to temporary weather conditions in Spain and North Africa, and expected resolution in two to four weeks. However, this explanation has been challenged, with comparisons to other European countries not facing similar shortages. Spanish agricultural associations have reported a decrease in tomato and cucumber production but also highlighted that the UK's issues might stem from logistics and Brexit-related regulations.
