Frost did not destroy seedlings thanks to greenhouses: the experience of a Ukrainian farmer

Sergei Remenets showcased his newly installed greenhouses to fellow farmers, highlighting how these structures have already proven their worth by protecting seedlings from unexpected May frosts. Previously, the farm in Kyselivka, located in the northern region of Ukraine, grew seedlings without such protection, but this year, with grant assistance, greenhouses covering 0.4 hectares were installed.

The farm, situated near Chernihiv, suffered significant damage during the war but is gradually recovering. Artillery shelling destroyed infrastructure, equipment was stolen, and the plantations were left unattended for a year. Inspired by European practices, a farmer decided to expand the greenhouse operations.

The "Ukrsadprom" Association, representing over 250 horticultural enterprises, supports greenhouse development as a promising sector. They assist growers with technology, and market research, and organize events for knowledge exchange.

Currently, in Kyselivka, seedlings are being carefully tended to and will soon be planted in open ground, with expectations for a good harvest, including the renowned watermelons.
