Vegetable sowing areas in the Lviv region, Ukraine are set to expand, particularly for cabbage, onions, and cucumbers

The projected area under vegetable cultivation in the Lviv region for the 2024 season remains steady at 43,600 hectares, consistent with the previous year's figures. However, there's a noticeable trend towards expanding cabbage cultivation by 2.5% and onion cultivation by 4.6% compared to last year's acreage.

According to the Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, agricultural enterprises anticipate a 14% increase in cucumber cultivation and a 6.0% rise in onion production.

The department's director noted that 96% of vegetable production is handled by residents. Stable market conditions have led to minimal changes in the acreage for key vegetable crops in the commercial and non-commercial sectors.

As of May 3rd, approximately 44% of the projected vegetable acreage had been sown, totalling 19,200 hectares across all types of vegetables. This includes 3,300 hectares for carrots and table beets, 4,300 hectares for onions, 2,500 hectares for garlic, 4,600 hectares for cabbage, and 2,100 hectares for cucumbers.

Agricultural enterprises have sown around 20% of the total projected acreage.

With favourable weather conditions expected in May, tomato, zucchini, late varieties of cucumbers, and cabbage are set to be sown and stabilized according to technological terms.
