Antonio Del Moral, from Agroalgaida: "We see that there is a very interesting growth potential"

"White zucchini is increasingly gaining ground in the export market"

The white zucchini campaign is underway at a good pace in the Spanish province of Cadiz. White zucchini is a variety of zucchini with a lighter skin, traditionally consumed in western Andalusia as an alternative to the more popular green variety and which is increasingly gaining ground in the export market.

"In fact, that is the main destination for the white zucchini we produce at Agroalgaida," says Antonio del Moral. "We market it mostly in Italy, France, and the Netherlands. In France, consumption remains very stable throughout the campaign, while Italy, which is also a producer, buys at more specific times of the campaign. The Netherlands, on the other hand, acts more as an intermediary in the re-export of white zucchinis to other countries, mainly in Eastern Europe."

The white zucchini campaign is mostly carried out in the province of Cadiz. "There are some minor productions in Valencia and Almeria, but I'd dare say that the northwest region of Cadiz, with La Algaida, Sanlúcar, and Chipiona at the forefront, is the area with the highest production of white zucchini in all of Spain," says Antonio.

"For us at Agroalgaida, it is our main product, and unlike companies that do not specialize in white zucchini, we can offer it in all kinds of sizes, formats, and packaging. More and more stores are showing interest in including white zucchini in their range alongside the classic green zucchini. The variety is becoming trendy, and we believe there is still a very interesting growth potential for it in the zucchini segment."
