Switzerland:

Vegetable producer Grob aims to become carbon-neutral

The Grob family's vegetable production aims to become a leading project for a sustainable future in Swiss agriculture. With their "NaturKraft Vegetables," they seek to pave the way for climate-neutral vegetable production. The family plans to consistently utilize the following energy sources: geothermal, photovoltaic, process waste heat, and likely also biogas from residual materials. "We want to take responsibility towards nature and consumers. And we do what we can," says CEO Hansjörg Grob.

In a statement, the family also mentions their energy supply coverage rate of about 70%. For agricultural enterprises with greenhouses, this figure is already outstanding. Driven by their vision "NaturKraft Vegetables", the family aims to increase this to around 90% by the end of 2026. To ensure sustainability, the greenhouse area is now also set to expand by 35%. By adjusting the zoning plan, the production area is expected to increase from 75,000 m² to approximately 105,000 m². At the same time, biodiversity is also to be enhanced. "It is and remains our ambition to produce fresh vegetables locally and with as little energy as possible. Adjusting the zoning plan would make an important contribution to being able to implement our vision."
