40% of Extremadura tomato producers haven't reached an agreement with the industry

According to Extremadura's regional government, even though the deadline to close the deals ended last night, approximately 40% of the region's tomato producers have not signed agreements with the industry due to disagreements over prices.

Mercedes MorĂ¡n, Regional Minister of Agriculture, said that the prices of the signed contracts ranged between 145 and 150 euros per ton. She also said she hoped that the parties that hadn't reached an agreement would soon do so.

Moran said that these are private agreements and that the regional government was working to help producers face the issues caused by the lack of contracts and to manage the aid related to tomatoes. She has also called for a cost study of cultivation carried out by the regional authorities, but with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, so that the data would be 'official.'
